Brandon and Ashley are back on the Central Coast from living in Colorado for the past 4 years! Both Brandon and Ashley knew they wanted to own their own ranch one day that offered horses the life they were designed to live and they sought for the best hands on knowledge and experience they could gain. While Ashley was in school full time and Brandon was working full time, they also managed equine boarding facilities on the Northern Colorado Front Range. Living in more extreme temperatures that reached well below the negatives to very hot and humid summers, they learned how resilient horses are if they are given the freedom to care for themselves. Both Brandon and Ashley saw the importance of free choice forage, movement, and correct hoof care which lead them to what they value and strive for today. "We have never seen happier horses when they are given these (BIG 3)! " They feel beyond blessed to offer boarding and other equine services on the central coast!
At a very young age, Ashley was started in horse back riding lessons to help with her anxiety. She was trained in both English and Western disciplines, was on a drill team and even traveled the state of California as a rodeo queen. She ended up falling in love with an old lesson horse Tahira Mar, and ended up adopting her. Tahira changed Ashley's perspectives on horsemanship and stewardship. With Tahira, Ashley learned what a partnership with a horse should be. From there on, Ashley strived to learn all aspects of equine stewardship by obtaining her B.S. in Equine Science and M.S. in Animal Science with emphasis on Equine Behavior at Colorado State University. Ashley had a rare opportunity to study under world renowned animal welfare and behaviorist Dr. Temple Grandin. Ashley's Masters researched focused on looking at potential indicators of stress using physiological and behavioral parameters in horses in equine assisted learning (EAL) programs with youth with trauma (program in EAL that is said to have increased stress for horses). Her research led her to respect the horse in a more holistic way and now strives to educate all horse lovers on her diverse knowledge. Ashley also dove into the avenue of equine podiatry and learned from some of the best barefoot trimmers that promoted methods that refers back to how the horse’s anatomy is structured and trim the way their body has designed their hooves to be.
Brandon may have entered the equine industry a little later in life but he has the heart and grit like every passionate ranch owner should. Brandon's first job was being a ranch hand at a local boarding facility where he fell in love with the western way of life. His move to Colorado brought him deeper into the equine industry and working the land. Since then Brandon has become the jack of all trades completing electrical schooling, has extensive knowledge from years of work in hardscaping/landscaping, and even is enjoying business school. Together with Ashley, they managed a 30 acre boarding facility where working in the wind, snow, and extreme heat was part of the job. Brandon later got his first horse Phoebe where they enjoy riding the wonderful trails God has to offer! Brandon is excited to share his knowledge on ranch management while incorporating the BIG 3 (forage, movement, and hoof care), to the Northern Central Coast!
